Networking event
The ICO National Fall School is a biennial, two-day networking event for all: PhDs, Young researchers and Post Docs. During this event participants can
-        meet, mingle, and learn about the projects of other ICO members, while 2nd and 3rd-year PhD-students can practice their presentation skills in a safe surroundings;
-        meet kindred research spirits during the Meet-your-Theme Group-lunch;
-        informally catch up with long lost colleagues at the evening event;
-        learn more about scientific ethics, or scientific publishing in the workshops;
-        and, watch the presentations of the PhD-students you supervise!
PhD student presentations
The focus of the National Fall School is on the ICO PhD-students. Students are given the opportunity to present their project, either in a Junior Presentation (for 2nd year students) or in a Senior Presentation (3rd year students). The Junior Presentation can be either a Poster Presentation, or a Round Table Presentation. The Senior Presentation is a Paper Presentation.
More information about the different presentation types can be found on the website, on the pages on Presentations<https://sites.google.com/site/iconationalfallschool2013/home/information-for-presenters-and-discussants>.
ICO Staff and Post Doc Members: our discussants and chairs
While the students are presenting their work, ICO Staff members and Post Docs that are present will all be given a role, either as chair of a session, or as a discussant. Of course, we will try to give all Staff and Post Docs the opportunity to be present as an auditor at the presentations of the projects they are involved in themselves, either as a promoter or as a supervisor.  If you have any special wishes regarding the presentations of your PhD Students you want to witness, please let us know at your registration form.
PhD students' role of "discussant"
Traditionally, the role of discussant has been fulfilled by ICO Staff Members. To involve the students in de review-process, third and fourth-year PhD-students are asked to join the Staff Members as a discussant. This means that after a presentation a pair, consisting of one Staff Member and one PhD student, will act as a discussant of the paper and presentation. In this manner, senior students can practice their future role as a discussant and interaction between staff members and students will increase. Students can use their discussant experience to fill in one of the Shorter Educational Activities.
Auditors
We would strongly recommend attending the ICO National Fall School as an Auditor to first year-PhD students. You are warmly invited to join us, in order to meet people from the ICO network, and to learn from all presentations and discussions. Also, when you are not an ICO member, but you have a strong interest in Educational Research, you are welcome to visit the National Fall School.
